Area household hazardous waste collection June 12
Monroe County's Department of Environmental Services (DES) and the towns of Hamlin, Clarkson, Ogden, Parma and Sweden and the villages of Hilton, Brockport and Spencerport have joined forces to hold an appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection at the Hilton Highway Garage, 50 Henry Street, on Saturday, June 12 from 8 a.m. to noon. more
Brockport school taxpayers approve $57.3 million spending plan
The determination of Brockport school officials to keep the tax rate increase under five percent met with the approval of taxpayers who voted for the budget by an almost three to one margin in the May 18 vote. more
Brockport sets summer meeting schedule
Village of Brockport officials remind residents that the board meets only once per month in June, July and August. The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on June 21, July 19 and August 16. A public hearing is scheduled for the June 21 meeting at which time the village will consider an amendment to its village code regarding open burning. more

Free training to improve public safety
The County of Monroe, the Greater Rochester Red Cross and the Community of Monroe Citizen Corps - Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will conduct trainings every Tuesday, beginning May 25 through July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Facility, 1100 Scottsville Road, Rochester. This training is free and open to the public. more

Hilton voters pass budget, 1,391 to 1,080
In step with all of the other school districts in Monroe County, Hilton voters turned out to pass the $54.4 million budget, 1,391-1,080. The budget is projected to raise school taxes nearly six percent for a budget that is more than $6 million higher than last year. more
Holley, Kendall budgets pass
Despite offering a budget that brings with it a 21 percent tax increase, voters in the Holley Central School District approved the proposed $16.8 million budget by a margin of almost two to one. more
Lakeside Health System recognizes volunteers
Volunteers of Lakeside Health System were honored at a dinner held on Tuesday, May 11 at the Plantation Party House in Spencerport. This group of volunteers donated 22,400 hours of their time in 2003-2004, providing essential services including transporting patients, staffing the main information desk, sorting and delivering mail, general office duties and other tasks. more

Town of Ogden Assessor Bob Criddle reported that 15 percent of Ogden property owners disputed their re-assessments as of Friday, May 14. "Last year, 800 reassessments were done and 38 people disputed them. more

Boy Scout Troop 90 held a Court of Honor on March 30, to recognize Edward P. Rowe for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at the First Baptist Church in Chili to see Rowe receive the highest award in Boy Scouting. more
Volunteers needed to raise guide dog puppies
Guiding Eyes for the Blind is recruiting volunteers to open their hearts and homes to raise puppies that will become guide dogs for the visually impaired. Volunteers are needed to teach their foster puppies obedience and manners while socializing the pups in preparation for their future as guide dogs. more
