Allied Frozen receives $180,000 from NYSERDA
Allied Frozen Storage, Inc. (AFS) received $180,000 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for the energy efficient equipment installed in Brockport Industrial Center. Allied was awarded the funds by the NYSERDA New Construction Energy Equipment Incentive Program for complying with the program's requirements for energy saving equipment. more

Employee Assistance Program for emergency workers
In times of stress and everyday emotional toll, Brockport’s Chief of Police Daniel Varrenti recommends his officers and Fire Chief Gregory Wing’s personnel have access to a specialized employee assistance program (EAP). The village presently offers EAP to its employees but both Wing and Varrenti say their personnel may require specialized personnel to help with their emotional concerns. more

Brockport Police Department looking to slash more overtime
In an effort to save money, Brockport’s Police Chief Daniel Varrenti requested the board approve the hiring of two part time police officers. more

Brush fire danger high, say fire officials
Due in part to the lack of rain, the Spencerport Fire Department, as well as other local fire departments, has seen an increase in the number and severity of brush fires. In the last couple of weeks, Spencerport, Hilton, Bergen, Brockport and Hamlin have all had brush fires, some of them involving several acres of land. more

Clarkson officials don’t expect recreation budget to affect taxes
While Clarkson is still in the planning stages of its 2003 budget, Supervisor Paul Kimball said he doesn’t expect to see a tax increase because of the increased recreation budget. more

Deadline for Hilton Apple Fest Photo Contest September 27
The Apple of My Eye Photo Contest at this year's Hilton Apple Fest, October 5 and 6, is extending a last call for entries. The deadline for entries is September 27. This year's theme is faces. more

Holley appoints new police chief
A long-time Holley resident has come out of retirement to accept the position of police chief. Kim Hinkley, a former Rochester City Police Department officer, was sworn in September 12 by Holley Mayor Daniel Schiavone as the new acting chief. more

New Ogden Town Historian appointed
At the Ogden Town Board meeting of September 11, Ogden Supervisor Gay Lenhard appointed Carol Coburn, a 30-year Ogden resident, to the position of Ogden Town Historian. more

Habitat for Humanity receives backpacks
Kelsey and Shelby Harmon of Byron are shown assembling school supplies into backpacks for Habitat for Humanity. Children at Salmon Creek Community Church in Bergen decided to find a way to show love and compassion to kids who might not be able to afford new school supplies. more

Lakeside honors 9/11
As part of remembering September 11, Lakeside Health System dedicated a new flag in front of the main entrance and Lakeside board members, staff and volunteers joined together to help honor the members of Monroe Lodge #173 who donated the funds for the new flag and pole. more

Monroe County Farm Bureau elects officers, votes on policies
The Monroe County Farm Bureau (MCFB) held their annual meeting Thursday, September 11 at the Whittier Road Party House. Election of officers and board members took place during the business portion of the meeting. Steve VanVoorhis was re-elected president and Jim Doan vice president. Marty Schutt was re-elected to serve on the board of directors, with Kim Zuber and Marc Krieger as newly elected board members. more

The Free Methodist Church of Parma welcomes Pastor Kathy Iannucci BSW to the pulpit as full time pastor. She follows Brent and Alma Thompson who were on temporary assignment from Edgewood F.M.C. (Brighton) for the summer. more

Two area fire departments win federal grants
Two area fire departments have been awarded grants under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program: Kendall Volunteer Fire District, $23,895; and Hamlin Fire District, $26,028. more

Child Advocacy Center to be created in Rochester
According to Assemblymember Susan John (D-Rochester, Chili, Wheatland) $150,000 will be allocated from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to create a Child Advocacy Center in Rochester. John said she secured the funding in the 2002-03 state budget. more

Congressman John LaFalce to be honored
United States Congressman John LaFalce will be honored at the Sweden Democrats 8th Annual Recognition Reception on Saturday, September 28. Congressman LaFalce, who has represented the Town of Sweden since 1975, will be recognized for his many years of public service. more

Brockport CSD Transportation Director earns master certification
Joseph LaMarca, director of transportation at the Brockport Central School District, completed an intense one-week master certification course through the New York State Education Department and the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute in Syracuse over the summer. LaMarca is now one of 50 Master School Bus Driver Instructors throughout New York state. more

Holley School District to host drug awareness program
Holley Central School District's Drug and Alcohol Task Force is hosting a drug awareness program on Monday, September 30 at the Holley High School auditorium, Lynch Road, Holley, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The program is open to any adult in the community who is interested in learning more about how drugs are affecting youth as young as five years old, what can be done about youth drug use, and how it can be prevented. more

Spencerport recruits community member for redistricting task force
The Spencerport Superintendent of Schools has appointed Dan Milgate, principal of the new elementary school, as co-chair of the Task Force on Elementary School Attendance Boundaries. The task force will, with community input, develop options for school boundary changes when the new elementary school opens September 2003. more

Ogden Seniors collect blankets for Project Linus
The women of the Ogden Senior Center have been involved with Project Linus for the past few years. Project Linus, named after Linus in Charles Schulz' Peanuts comic strip, is a non-profit organization that collects handmade knitted blankets for children at local hospitals. more

Beckingham nets two in Hawks win
Senior Bryan Beckingham scored a goal in each half as Holley defeated Kendall 3-1 in boy’s soccer September 17. more

Catlin scores in Holley loss
Senior Renee Catlin scored the only goal of the game for Holley as they lost to Attica 2-1 September 16 at home. more
