celebrates River Romance weekend

Clarendon Historical Society debuts new book by Roy Bubb
Former Clarendon resident Roy Bubb, who is well known in the area as a teacher at SUNY Brockport and as a long time active community supporter and participant, has written a book of his early memories of growing up in Manning Corners. Now part of Clarendon, Manning Corners lies just west of the Clarendon Fire Department on Route 31A. more

Clarkson Historical Society makes October membership month
October is membership month for the five-year-old Clarkson Historical Society. With 30 members at present, the society is interested in increasing its membership. Membership meetings are held every first Wednesday of the month at 7:15 p.m. at the Justice Court House in Hafner Park in Clarkson. more

Entrants sought for Gingerbread House display
George Eastman House is seeking gingerbread houses for the seventh annual holiday exhibition Sweet Creations: Gingerbread House Display, on view November 13 through December 15. more

Gazebo concert showcases Spencerport talent
A special concert featuring jazz, blues, pop, Broadway, show tunes and classical music for the Spencerport Community will be held Sunday, October 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clyde W. Carter Gazebo on the canal. more

Common sense parenting course offered through BOCES
Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES SEPTA (Special Education Parent Teacher Association), through a grant funded by RG&E, is offering a free six-week Common Sense Parenting course for parents whose children have behavior management needs. Parents will learn practical skills to encourage positive behavior, discourage negative behavior and alternatives to problem behaviors for 6- to 16-year olds. more

Community chorus performs; invites new members

Flu Cinics for high-risk groups set to begin October 1
Over 100 public flu clinics will be conducted throughout the community between October and December by member organizations of the Monroe County Adult Immunization Coalition. In October, however, flu shots will be administered only to residents aged 65 and older, and to others at high-risk of complications from the flu, such as individuals with a chronic medical condition. more

Garden Clubs to do fall plantings in Chili
The Town of Chili is looking for volunteers to help the garden club plant mums and bulbs at the Town Hall/Library complex on Wednesday, October 9 at 2:30 p.m. more

Winners of the Viewers' Choice award ribbons at the North Chili Quilt Show September 13 and 14 were Karen Allen Ergott for her whimsical applique quilt, "The 12 Days of Christmas" (#57) and Judith Henderson, also of Rochester, for her pictorial wallhanging about her family members (and dog) with the New York City Police Force, (#90). more

Ogden Farmers' Library opens Parent Resource Center
The Ogden Farmers' Library officially opened its new Parent Resource Center on September 21. The PRC includes a full computer workstation complete with a color printer, scanner, educational software, and Internet access. more

Ogden Presbyterian installs new pastor
On Sunday, September 29, Ogden Presbyterian Church will officially install the Rev. Don Winbourne as their new pastor. The installation service will be at 2 p.m. at the church. more

Practice E.D.I.T.H. October 9
Operation E.D.I.T.H. will be held in the Spencerport Fire District on Wednesday, October 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. Firefighters will be in the neighborhoods on firetrucks handing out fire prevention literature on subjects like Operation E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home) and the importance of having a smoke detector on every floor of a home. Firefighters can answer any questions residents have. more

Sunday program on genealogy at Ogden Farmers' Library Oct. 13
The Ogden Farmers' Library and the Western Monroe County Genealogical Society (WMCGS) will present the final program in the 2002 Genealogy Sunday series on October 13 from noon to 4 p.m. more

BOCES educator receives Teacher of the Year award
Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator Charmy Perry will receive the 2002 AGATE (Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education) Alexinia L. Baldwin Teacher of the Year Award at the AGATE statewide conference October 10 at the Chatauqua Institution, near Jamestown. The AGATE award honors a New York state teacher who has made outstanding contributions to gifted education. more

Butterflies - up close and personal
Kamielle Fish, a third-grader in Barb Filardo's class at Holley Elementary School, takes an extra close look at a Monarch butterfly. She was one of the participants in a Project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) through Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, that gave students the opportunity to learn about the biology and behavior of Monarchs through slides and live specimens. more

The Hilton-Parma Seniors have scheduled another trip to Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Included in this trip is round-trip transportation, driver gratuity, five hours of time at Casino Niagara, and the current casino bonus. There will be an "on your own" dinner stop at Cracker Barrel in Niagara Falls en route home. more

Juniors Eric Palumbo and Jim Clar had 32 kills as Churchville-Chili remained unbeaten in league play with a 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17 win over Brockport in boy’s volleyball September 23. more
