BISCO donates $37,093 to benefit community
The Brockport Integrated Service & Community Organizations (BISCO) donated a total of $37,093 to various community projects during their fiscal year October 2001 through September 2002. The largest grants were given in support of the Kool Kids Program and the Skate Board Park which received $12,243 and $20,000, respectively. more

Historical association hosts Santa image collector
The Orleans County Historical Association will host a Holiday Dinner and program at Hickory Ridge Country Club on Thursday, December 5 starting at 6 p.m. The featured after dinner speaker will be the well-known Santa collector Bob Hoffman from Pittsford. more

IRS grants Brockport Development Corp. not for profit status
Dovetailing with the village's plans for construction of a new museum and other revitalization plans along the Erie Canal, Brockport's Development Corporation has been granted 501(c)(3) status. more

Landscaping enhances Lakeside entrance area
The main entrance and gazebo at Lakeside Health System recently received major renovations. Kyle Rombaut and his fellow boy scouts worked over the summer and early fall landscaping the gazebo and flagpole garden areas on the grounds of Lakeside Health System. more

Local musicians perform at Lakeside Gala Dinner
Musicians and vocalists performing at Lakeside's Annual Gala Dinner featuring Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright all reside within the local community. This year's event will begin with a Press Conference and Reception at Lakeside, followed by the black tie formal dinner at the Crowne Plaza Rochester on Friday, December 6. more

Monroe County Pomona Grange donates to Children's Hospital
On Tuesday, November 12, eleven members of the Monroe County Pomona Grange along with the moral support from some Monroe County Subordinate Granges made a gift to the Golisano Children's Hospital of the Strong Memorial Hospital. more

Share a part of summer with a Belfast child
The Irish Children's Program (ICP) of Rochester is looking for host families to welcome a child from Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the summer of 2003. For the five week visit, the children will feel safe in area homes and forge friendships with children of other religions that they would never meet in their homeland. In Belfast, the neighborhoods are divided by religion, with concrete walls and barbed wire. more

Joint Thanksgiving service to benefit Habitat for Humanity
An ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service on Wednesday, November 27 at 7 p.m. will benefit the Habitat for Humanity project on Rauber Street in Rochester. The service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3450 Ridge Road West at North Avenue. Two Greece congregations, John Knox Presbyterian Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, invite the community to attend. more

C-C Intermediate School receives ExxonMobil Grant
Churchville-Chili Intermediate School received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program. New books and computer equipment for the renovated library were purchased with this grant. more

Gift recognizes good church work
The Center for Christian Social Ministries at Roberts Wesleyan College will benefit from a new endowment fund just established at Rochester Area Community Foundation by a benefactor who hopes others will be inspired to add their gifts to it. more

Hill Elementary School discovers Biome Regions of the World
Wildlife educator Tom Hudak is presenting a week-long program entitled Biome Regions of the World to all Hill Elementary School students during the week of November 18 through November 25. more

Nominations sought for Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame
Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame has issued its call for nominations for the induction to be held June 2003. Nominations are due March 28, 2003. Nominees must have graduated 15 years ago: class of 1988 or before. more

Soup's on project aids others
At Holley Elementary School, the soup on the menu is much more than an entrée. Students recently brought in cans of broth and vegetables, half of which were used to make soup that was enjoyed by the whole school. The other half will be donated to the Orleans Community Center as Holley Elementary School's "hope for the community." more

New coaches named for Spencerport teams
Kelly Ann Tantalo has been named as the Spencerport Rangers Winter Cheerleading varsity coach for the 2002-03 season. more

Sorel named first team all-region
Lynn Sorel (Brockport) capped off an outstanding freshman year by being named to the All-Region III First team. Sorel, an outside hitter, is only the second volleyball player in school history to be named to the All-Region team as she received the third highest total in the voting. more

Thanksgiving Day race will benefit HDSA
For the first time in its 12-year history, the Thanksgiving Day Race with Grace 10K will also be a fundraiser. Race organizer Bob Dyjak has joined with Huntingdon's Disease Society of America (HDSA), combining what was formerly two separate events, both hosted at First Bible Baptist Church (FBBC), 1039 North Greece Road. more
