Boy Scout Troop 292 holds Eagle Court of Honor
Boy Scout Troop 292 held a Court of Honor on May 2, to recognize Jeffrey S. Wumkes for earning the rank of Eagle. Wumkes was escorted on stage by Eagle Escorts Greg Tschorke and Jason DiCiaccio, after Jim Corke, assistant scoutmaster, described the climb along the trail to Eagle. more

'Broadway in Brockport' in its seventh year
On June 8 the curtain will go up on "Broadway in Brockport 2002" at the Brockport High School. Students will sing, dance and act selected songs and scenes from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "Secret Garden," "The King and I", "Jekyll & Hyde," "Guys and Dolls," "South Pacific," "Peter Pan," My Fair Lady," "Music Man," "West Side Story" and "Sound of Music." Most of the students are in 8-12 grade from Brockport, Kendall, Hilton and Holley. more

Brockport Child Care Center teacher
named Teacher of the Year

On Tuesday, May 21, Curt Lawall, Assistant Manager of the Brockport Wal-Mart, recognized Sara Doty as the area Teacher of the Year. Wal-Mart sponsored this contest from March 11 through April 14. more

Brockport Village Landing plans presented
A 230-unit housing development, on 117.32 acres, with six professional business offices and three "forever wild" sites is being planned for the Village of Brockport. more

Catholic Daughters essay contest winners announced
The annual Catholic Daughters Court Nativity #931 Essay Contest winners were recently chosen. This year five schools participated in the contest: Brockport Central Fred Hill School, Christ Community Church School, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School, Brockport, St. John the Evangelist, Spencerport, and Children's Home Workshop. more

Chili FD responds to apartment complex fire
On Friday, May 9, the Chili Fire Department responded for a reported fire in the Cedars of Chili Apartment complex. First on scene units reported fire venting from a second floor window. more

County and partners host household hazardous waste collection
Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle announced that the county's Department of Environmental Services (DES) and the towns of Hamlin, Clarkson, Ogden, Parma and Sweden and the villages of Brockport, Hilton and Spencerport will hold an appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection at the Spencerport Highway Garage, 500 West Avenue, on Saturday, June 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. more

ESL introduces a Scramble of Animals in Rochester for 2003
Wild animals will soon be turned loose on Rochester's streets - fiberglass animals, that is. ESL announced today that it will sponsor Rochester's second large-scale community arts project. more

Funding obtained for Hilton Veterans Memorial
Assembly Republican Leader Charles H. Nesbitt has obtained $5,000 in state funding for the construction of a Veterans Memorial in the Village of Hilton. more

Girl Scouts working on project for Troop 491 Bronze Award
Spencerport Junior Girl Scout Troop 491 is earning their Bronze Award. They are collecting donations for animals waiting to be adopted at Spencerport and Scottsville Veterinary Adoptions, and community members are invited to help. more

Go Art! Youth Theatre Program returns to Orleans County
The Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council Youth Theatre Program returns to Orleans County this summer with a production of "Jack and the Beanstalk." All interested youth who will be entering grades 4 in the fall through college-age are invited to attend open auditions on Tuesday, July 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Medina High School Auditorium, Maple Ridge Road (Route 31A) Medina. more

A special event is being planned to present Stanley Vanderlaan's book titled, "Odds And Ends," a documenting of the many years of archeological digs in Orleans County and Western New York. more

There may at last be a home for the proposed Parma animal shelter. The animal shelter committee is currently negotiating a lease for the former Falcheck Veterinary Clinic at 1215 Hilton Parma Corners Road. more

Residents petition officials to halt West Ridge Road construction plan
More than 10,000 signatures were collected and presented to Town of Greece officials at a recent meeting urging them to halt reconstruction of West Ridge Road. The citizen’s group, Change West Ridge Road Plan (CWRRP), has been opposed to the Department of Transportation’s plans for the five-mile section of road that runs between Dewey Avenue in the City of Rochester and North Greece Road in the Town of Greece. more

VFW and Auxiliary members elected
Hilton-Parma Memorial Post #6105 Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Auxiliary have elected officers for 2002-2003. Post officers are as follows: Post Commander Raymond Boddy has been reelected; Sr. Vice Commander Richard Long, reelected; Robert Rapone as jr. vice commander; Arthur Bell reelected quartermaster; James LaPointe reelected adjutant; Robert Holmes elected chaplain, and Peter Verzillo was elected officer of the day. more

Voters pass Hilton School budget
The $46 million Hilton School District budget that has been billed as a "tighten the belt" budget was passed Tuesday by a vote of 1,326 to 632. Along with the vote of confidence regarding the budget, the two other proposals up for vote also gained approval. more

The Community Free Library, 86 Public Square, Holley, will have a book sale at the library from Tuesday, May 28 through Saturday, June 1. Among the many items are children's books, adult biography, fiction and non-fiction books. Some records will also be available. more

First place winner Crimson Cadet
Marching Band marches in Memorial Day Parade
The 90-member Hilton Crimson Cadet Marching Band, winner of the Educational Programs Network "Music in the Parks" Band Festival held in Sandusky, Ohio May 18, will march in the Hilton Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 27, beginning at 10 a.m. The band is directed by music teacher Tim Stodd and drum majors are Sarah Mattison and Danielle Wellington. more

Flag disposal ceremony
Since September 11, 2001, the great symbol of our country, the American Flag is seen displayed everywhere - homes, businesses, cars, windows, etc. We reflect on the flag raising over the years, especially Iwo Jima to our proud firemen at ground zero-World Trade Center. When the flags become torn and tattered, the proper and dignified way to dispose of them is by burning as stated in the Flag Code, amended in the 94th Congress. more

Holley volunteers help with spring clean up
The Village of Holley's Volunteer Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 18 has been declared a success. Over 40 volunteers scoured Holley's parks, trails, and canal bank picking up litter and planting flowers in an effort to beautify Holley. more

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Department of Health, and the Monroe County Health Department have scheduled a public meeting to discuss clean-up plans for the former General Electric/Black & Decker and the former 3M/Dynacolor sites in Brockport. more

Motorcycle ride proceeds benefit LAI's Sensory Park
The Blue Knights motorcycle club will host the 2nd Annual Gus Schmidt Memorial Run on August 24. This ride benefits the Life time Assistance Sensory Park located in Clarkson off of Horizon Park Drive. more

Amadeus Chorale concert and auditions scheduled
The Amadeus Chorale will present a concert entitled "The Red, White & Blue Concert" on Saturday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at Third Presbyterian Church, Meigs Street and East Avenue in Rochester. The concert will feature all four Amadeus Chorale Choirs. Tickets will be available at the door for $3 per person or $10 per family. more

Voters in most school districts turned out and gave their approval for the budgets presented to them by their respective school officials. more

Hilton High School student wins Memorial Day essay contest
Hilton High School junior Katrina Gutmann was chosen the winner of New York Senator Richard A. Dollinger Memorial Day Scholarship Essay Contest. She will read the essay which discusses the role of heroes in both Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and throughout the events of September 11. more

Hilton High School students develop leadership skills
Hilton High School student council members want to build more than school spirit in their school. They also want to build community. This year they attended several youth conferences including the Annual State Leadership Conference in Albany, "Just Lead It," and a Youth Leadership Conference at Nazareth College. more

Penny collection helps migrant workers
The junior high students of All Saints Catholic Academy have completed their annual Penny Collection to benefit LaEscuela de San Jose Migrant School, a school for children of migrant workers, collecting $2,368.31. more

Boys Track and Field team qualified
The Boys Track and Field Team at Spencerport High School qualified for the NYSPHSAA Team Scholar Athlete Award during the spring 2001-02 season. In order to qualify, a team must have a team grade point average of 90 percent or above. The team had a GPA of 91.62 and is coached by Jamie Schneider. more

C-C to hold annual sports banquet
Churchville-Chili School District's Annual Sports Banquet to honor the school district's athletes and announce winners of several scholarships will be held June 3 at the Diplomat Banquet Center. more

Hilton-Parma Recreation forming softball teams
The Hilton-Parma Recreation Department is now forming teams for the Summer Girls Softball League. The league is available to girls ages 7 1/2 to 15 years of age who live in the Town of Parma or attend the Hilton Central school district. more

Saints Torcello stops Braves
Churchville-Chili’s Nikki Torcello allowed only six hits while striking out seven as the third-seeded Saints defeated Canandaigua 8-1 in the first round of the high school softball Section Five tournament. more

The Victor Gymnasts compete at The Hawaiian Cup Meet
The Victors gymnasts ended their season at the May 11 Hawaiian Cup competition in Syracuse. The meet was sponsored by The GC2 Gymnastics Club. more

Youth baseball camp offered in Chili
Monroe Community College Baseball Coach Skip Bailey and former Finger Lakes Community College Baseball Coach Bob Lowden will be conducting a Youth Baseball Camp for players ages 6 through 14 beginning Monday, July 22 through Thursday, July 25. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and will be held at the Chili Center baseball fields. more
